Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026 • Textra Version 1.0.0
In the current version of Textra, all documents remain stored locally on your device—either inside browser database storage (IndexedDB) or directly on your computer as local files.
Currently, no analytics scripts, no usage telemetry, and no advertising trackers are embedded in the workspace.
Using the core version of Textra requires no email registration, password, or account creation.
1. Overview & Privacy Commitment
Textra ("we," "our," or "the workspace") is engineered from first principles with absolute respect for user privacy. We believe software should operate as an empowering local tool rather than a vehicle for continuous remote data collection.
This Privacy Policy outlines how privacy and data storage are structured in the current version of Textra when installed inside web browsers. By using Textra, you acknowledge the local storage practices described below.
2. Current Data Storage & Location
When you write, format, or organize documents within Textra, your content is stored locally on your machine—either inside your browser's database sandbox via IndexedDB (Browser Storage Mode) or directly on your local hard drive as real files via the Textra Bridge (Local Storage Mode).
- In the current version of Textra, your notes and folder structures are kept local to your device and are not transmitted to remote servers. We have no access to or custody over your local documents.
- Your workspace data is saved directly on your device rather than external cloud infrastructure.
- Unless you choose to enable future opt-in online services, your documents remain accessible exclusively on the device where they were created.
3. Browser Storage Permissions
Textra requests minimal WebExtensions permissions necessary to operate as a local browser workspace:
"storage": Allows reading and writing UI settings and preferences locally on your machine.
"unlimitedStorage": Ensures the browser does not purge your locally saved documents due to default storage quotas.
"nativeMessaging": Allows communication with the local Textra Bridge when Local Storage Mode is selected to save real files to disk. Operates strictly offline without network connections.
In its current release, Textra does not request network interception permissions or cookie tracking access.
4. Current Analytics & Telemetry
The current version of Textra contains zero third-party tracking scripts, advertising identifiers, or telemetry SDKs. At the time of this Privacy Policy, we do not collect usage statistics or inspect the contents of your workspace.
5. User Ownership & Data Export
You maintain total ownership and control over your workspace at all times:
- Export: You can export your full folder hierarchy and documents to standard .zip archives or plain text files whenever you choose.
- Deletion: Removing Textra from your browser automatically purges browser-stored workspace data. Notes stored in Local Storage Mode remain safely preserved on your computer in your designated folder.
6. Future Optional Features
Future releases of Textra may introduce optional features, including but not limited to Pro subscriptions, optional account sync, cloud backups, collaboration tools, diagnostic crash reporting, or AI writing assistance.
Any such online features will be strictly opt-in. The core local-first workspace will remain available without requiring online accounts. Should an update introduce features that process remote data, this Privacy Policy will be updated transparently with full disclosure prior to activation.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Textra, new optional features or services, legal requirements, or other improvements. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically so you remain informed about our privacy practices.
